every time before i upload any logo i struggle to decide if i want to include a placeholder text for the company name or not.
i want the clients to only focus on the logo itself and i know that lg recommends that in the designer handbook, but at the same time, when i see the recently sold logos most of them have placeholders.
maybe it's just because there are more logos with text in lg or maybe it makes clients make up their minds easier when they see how it will look with text ?
do you guys think it matters?
any thoughts are appreciated :)

I really want to know that too plus how many clients actually want the designer to change the placeholder text into their business name. All of my logos has been sold as it is (without any need for changes).

Sometimes a logo just looks better with text ;-)
But yes, I suppose that a customer also likes to see how the logo can be used with a company name. I don't have a rigid protocol for it, but I determine it per logo.

Hi @mk4gfx!
It seems to me that it does not matter. It is even possible, on the contrary, for example, when a client sees the name “Brand”, he may decide that this does not suit him because the word is shorter than the name of his company.
In some cases, the logo looks more expressive with a placeholder, and sometimes without.
The filler also needs to be selected wisely. It should fit the style and character of the logo.
In general, I do not bother with it. I look at the situation.

Hi everyone!

@korzuen, i also wanna know that! i was confused when my logo was sold and the client didn't specify their company name and i had a placeholder for it. i didn't know if i should send the files with the placeholder or the icon by itself and ended up sending both versions to be safe.

@brandmaistro, that what i do too but still sometimes it's hard to decide.

@futuraSan, i understand. i always think about that and what if the client needs a landscape logo to fit their website and mine is portrait or vice versa maybe they might think it couldn't be changed or something.
But yet some logos just looks better with text :/

A text is actually a crucial part of any logo. And it takes a lot of time to select the right or fitting one. I personally would want to add text to all my logos, but i get indecisive.

And the way most logos are shown here won't actually be used like that, you know with text small and logo big. It's just a cool way to showcase a logo, but clients will still use horizontal logo or a vertical logo but with the mark smaller.

@kassymkulov, Yes. Of course the text is very important part of any logo but LG is all about the designs that we create, so it make sense to discard it.
and sometimes clients have their own opinions about what fonts they wanna use and stuff
But again, i agree. it's a good way to showcase the design.

I agree with @brandmaistro. I determined it on each logo. most of my letter logo don't use placeholder like the others.. also my simple shape logo..
but text is also important.. like to determine best logo to text position etc. Imo, if you could fit the style of the typeface and character of the logo, it would really help selling the logo..

I'm not sure the placeholder is creating that much difference. You can never know what the client might like. Personally, I just follow that feeling I see most of us have. If it is good without it then no text and vice versa.
