Hi everyone,

I made my 1st sale :D

These are the changes that I'm asking about:

"
- BUSINESS NAME: .. all caps think solid letters with the line with rounded tip running through center of the letter---kind of like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/98u8P7jwE8v56D1QA

- LOGO SHAPE: I think anyone looking at the logo can obviously tell that it’s Africa, but I also want the shape to be versatile and the ability to convert it to a solid shape and it still realistically look like the shape of Africa. But, to enable this, can you test with 1) adding additional lines and/or 2) extending some of the lines to ensure that if I were to essentially connect all the dots and lines along the outer perimeter of the shape, it would more realistically be shaped like Africa (not totally precise, i.e., keeping it a bit abstract and modern is fine).

- LOGO MAP COVERAGE: I would like to explore incorporating Madagascar somehow, as it’s not currently represented. Even though the logo has clean, modern and abstract lines, I think it could somehow work as an adjacent shape. Here’s an example of modern Africa logo that incorporates Madagascar, which I’m sending in case it helps spark any ideas: https://images.app.goo.gl/1SpHNS2R7ZfALCmM6

- LOGO ROOT DETAIL: I shared the logo comp with some trusted friends and a couple of them had similar feedback, i.e., to make the lines/roots a bit more “curvy” or “bendy” instead of so stick straight. Here are three examples of roots graphics that seem to do that: 1 - https://images.app.goo.gl/fcvVxDLVaqz6A1aJA 2- https://images.app.goo.gl/CDbQC5YGVRt9oRYv7 3 - https://images.app.goo.gl/ztneUXuPpxXEEwx97 . Please note that I'm not sure I really want to make this type of change. I like the clean lines and modern feel of the logo now, and two of my other friends also like the current logo lines. However, I didn’t’ want to ignore the feedback in case I’d be missing out on some way to make it even better. So, I wanted to ask you to consider this and let me know if it sparks any ideas to explore. If so, can you try it out, even on a portion of the logo, just to see how it might look, but please don’t spend a lot of time on this.
"

Are these part of the free changes? if not what's the proper way to communicate that to the client?

No, it's definitely not part of free changes, these are extra requests.. The requested changes are a lot and will take too much time working on the requested modification and design refining which is not included with what LG's FAQ and handbook says:

https://www.logoground.com/faq.php
https://www.logoground.com/designerhandbook.php

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Charging More

When working with a client there are certain circumstances where you may charge an additional fee. You may charge extra when:

The client selects more than one revision to be finalized.

The client requests changes to the logo after it was finalized.

The client requests significant changes to the logo image itself (custom logo design).

The revisions process runs past the 30-day limit, provided that you always responded within 1 business day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would suggest you send the client a preview of design with changed businessname and talk to the client and clarify to him/her the rules and explain that more modification would need extra time which needs extra budget. Also, try to defend your design because i see it really great right now and changing it might change the feeling of it.

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!! i love the logo!

No, that is not included - it would be a full custom logo design what he is requesting. I would explain the limitations of a ready-made logo, and offer to work on customizing it to his liking for xxxx $.

I have no problems taking things away, or adding something small to existing logos, but the actual logo and shape remain the same.

The font.
You can find some similar font and explain that the client will need to purchase the font by themselves. If you add those customizations to a font by yourself then it's extra work.

You can add Madagascar in exactly the same style without any extra fee, this would be a small revision.

Changing the style to a more organic look is a different thing so this needs extra work hence the extra fee.

Misma, I had very recently situation like this. After advice from Admin I gave client three options: 1. He reduces here revision/edition scope to the level described in LG rules. 2. He pays me for extra revisions. 3. He asks LG for refund.

Finally my client reduced scope of revisions (initially I had request to add garden) and all went pretty smooth.

Lesson I learned was: We have a right to offer client refund if he tries to make us work for free.

Client is entitled to simple editing not remaking whole lot of the design or making new works derrivitive of the original image like collages or map from the symbol as you shown. Also, the client is entitled to one version of the image, the rest is up to you. I often include one more version or so for free but when the scope of additional files grows i ask for a little bit extra to cover my experitse, design and preparation of additional files.

It is unambiguous that you need to charge for these edits, an additional fee (he wants to redo the logo, thereby completely changing its style).
You can add Madagascar for free, exactly in the style of your logo.
It seems like the client hired you to work on this logo, rather than bought it.

Free edits that can be applied to the logo:
1.insert company name
2.change color
Any other changes that affect the style of the logo and its execution will require additional payment. (of course it's up to you)

Misma,

If the client likes that particular typeface, it is available for $60.00 USD with a full commercial-use license, including permission for using the typeface in a logo.

https://www.ljdesignstudios.com/zilap-monograma/
https://www.ljdesignstudios.com/commercial-licenses/

As a courtesy to the client, you could purchase the license and include it in your special customization price; this way, the client doesn't have to go through the trouble. Or, as indicated by others above, you can ask your client to purchase the license themselves.

As for the other requests, yes, I definitely agree with others above that this should not be considered minor design changes and thus, they are not part of the original price.

Hope this helps,

Ortega Graphics

IMO this topic is very important, this can happen to any designer

@admin & @Ajleroux,
is it worth it if this topic pinned to "Important Topics"?
so all designers can do the same treatment for this same case

Regards,
Furqontino

This standard information is already present in multiple pages, for instance:

Furqontino, sure, I've added it to the important topics. It is explained elsewhere too like Ortega Graphics pointed out, but no harm in adding it here too.

@Ortega Graphics thanks for reminding ;-)
IMHO It is just an anticipation that many of us (who are not English native speakers), even though they have read that links -maybe years ago when they joined LG-
will still try to find out what to do when they facing a similiar case like this by finding out the answer in the forum

@Ajleroux thank you ;-)
