Forum Security Change: No more EPS/SVG access

Short version:

We still require that you upload an EPS or SVG file for every logo, but from today you will no longer be able to download your old uploads from LogoGround. As a security precaution we are locking them away to keep them safe. Please always retain local copies of the files you upload on LogoGround and make regular backups.

Long version:

A week ago we temporarily removed access to old EPS/SVG files. We are now making that a permanent change.

LogoGround's growth is very exciting, but growth also means that hackers are increasingly noticing us. We have blocked many attacks on LogoGround over the years. The attacks we are seeing this year are more sophisticated. Some of these guys know what they are doing. They take a big risk and look for a big pay-off. On LogoGround the main pay-off would be gaining access to 110K vector files.

Any web site that gives its users access to their vector files creates paths and patterns that hackers can potentially use. So far we have been able to keep your vector files safe, but no web site is invulnerable and it is impossible to guarantee that we will always outsmart the smartest hackers. We think that the only responsible thing to do is to take all vector files offline, and to do so now. We don't want to wait until an attack succeeds before we take decisive action.

In the future we hope to give designers the option to request a download of a specific file, so that we can make that file available to the designer for a limited period, then automatically take it offline again. For now though we don't have such a system.

We realize that not being able to download your vector files from LogoGround is an inconvenience for some. We hope you agree that the safety of your files is important enough to justify this change.

Questions and suggestions welcome, as always! :)

Very good. In case i cant find any files on my end ill reach out to you. This shouldnt have happened much but it might have due to the design software crashing without saving.

Don’t remember downloading my own vector files. Even if I did it was just to test if it works.
Security comes first. Thank you for protecting our work ;)

For me it's not a big deal.
Good to upload a vector file to review it (whether it is actually vector, high quality) and then delete or lock it.

And besides... Designers who don't make ten copies of their beloved logos themselves are not worth being here. LOL

Thank you LG and ajleroux, for everything :) I agree that safety is the priority. By the way, I never used the EPS download feature, I always keep local backups to avoid issues.

I'm glad to be here, it feels great :D again thank you.

Blessings

Hello Andre,

I have a problem with this... Generally I support the idea of course.

However, couple of years ago my old hard disk had an issue, which I wasn't able to repair and it left me loosing all my logos I designed up to that point. Up until recently it was no problem, since with every sale I had access to the vectors in my Logoground portfolio. When I sell an older logo now, I would have the problem of not being able to access those old vectors and some of them may be complex to recreate from the .jpg version.

Is there a way to access my old vectors and download them all so I wouldn't have that problem when I make a sale?

Hi mc design,

We hope to add the option to request a download in the future, where you can request a specific file and then that file is available to download for a short time.

In the meantime, if there is a specific file that you need, send me an email to let me know which one and I should be able to retrieve it for you from our backups.

Hi guys,

It's a really good change, but there’s a tiny downside. Now we can’t check if everything went smooth with the eps file during the upload.
I remember there were a few times when I got some errors and I had to upload the logo again.
It would suck to get a decline/ruin a streak for something that you can’t control.

I’m sure the LG staff thought about this already and they will be reasonable if something like this ever happens :)

Hi Sor,

Many thanks for the feedback. For senior designers we will still approve the logo even if the EPS/SVG file is missing. If it happens often we may stop and first speak to the designer, but if it happens occasionally we overlook it. After all, a senior designer is someone who has proven that they understand vector graphics, so it's OK if we can't check each upload. :)

Hi everyone, I haven't been active in this forum for a long time.

discussing about not being able to re-download the uploaded eps file, to protect against theft & hacking it is a very good decision.

but I want to ask, if at any time an old logo is sold, but the designer loses the vector file in their personal data, does LG allow designers to re-trace the same logo if it is sold for a client?

because I believe there is a possibility of losing files on personal storage on the computer.

thank you very much andre & logo ground forum.

Hi Yara,

You don't need our permission. :) You can retrace your logo if the original is lost.
