Forum Using Google to search the LogoGround forum

Hello,

I received an email from a fellow LogoGround designer. She notice that in some of my forum posts, I added links to previous related discussions; she was wondering how do I find the related discussions so fast, then she suggested me to share this information with the community as well.

As the title of this topic indicates, I use Google. More specifically, to narrow down the results to the LogoGround website, I use the "site" operator in a Google search query. Furthermore, I add discuss.php to make sure the results are limited to the forum only (as all forum topic pages are generated with that specific PHP page), other sections of the website are ignored in the search query.

Here is an example, which is typed exactly as is in the Google search text field, notice that the only spaces are between the keywords at the end of the query:

site:logoground.com/discuss.php double paypal fee

Currently, this yields four results, all are discussions in the LogoGround forum about resolving the issue with the PayPal fee currently being taken twice. It is interesting to note that Google is smart enough to find synonyms; e.g., "charge" instead of "fee" and "twice" instead of "double".

This search query can be use with any combination of words, here's another example, which again, can be typed as is within the Google search text field:

site:logoground.com/discuss.php statistics percentage

Currently, this yields five results, all have the two specified words and thus, are relevant to discussions of LogoGround statistics involving percentages.

Hope this helps,

Ortega Graphics

Thank you @Ortega, this is a great help.

Whenever I need to search for a topic here in forums I always use google but I just use the normal search function, yours is definitely way better with results directly relevant to the topic searched. Was wondering though, do the admins have plans in the feature to better the forum? Just throwing something out here, but members would surely be more active with added forum functions such as search tab.

@FC, don't worry; I won't forget how to do it. I have been using the site operator since it was first introduced, almost 20 years ago.

thanks @Ortega Graphics
i wonder if this feature is the cause you always add "Ortega Graphics"
at the end of your posts

i tried to search about site:logoground.com/discuss.php Ortega Graphics
and all the topics you posted at came to me

i think this is very smart and i'll put my user name at the end of my posts too. :D

Aelsayed375,

Your username is already added to every post and topic you write, even if you don't sign it (this is done by the LG system).

So, as long as Google has indexed a topic, then it will be listed in the results when searching for a particular username. The thing is, not all topics get indexed right away, it depends on several factors.

Also, I don't sign all my posts; only the ones that I end with a final thought or comment, as I did below.

Here's an example search that yields all indexed topics where André, the admin, intervened:
site:https://www.logoground.com/discuss.php ajleroux

This search works, even if André doesn't sign his posts as "ajleroux". That is, this search woks because the system adds "ajleroux" to every post.

Hope this helps,

Ortega Graphics
